Liposomes are small, spherical structures made up of a lipid bilayer surrounding a nutrient-filled core. These liposomes have the ability to enhance absorption by merging with cell membranes to deliver nutrients. Similar to liquid liposomes, powder liposomes function in the same manner, with the lipids enveloping the nutrients, but without the presence of water. Upon reaching the small intestine, the powder liposomes become rehydrated. Visualize liquid liposomes as grapes and powder liposomes as raisins. Just as raisins plump up when soaked in water, powder liposomes also expand once rehydrated.
