Product Description

Alaffia's Authentic African Black Soap is a time-honoured solution, made from an ancient recipe. Handcrafted with fair trade and organic shea butter together with Orangutan-safe West African palm oil†, it is finished off with the calming scent of lavender oil for added wellbeing. Potash (made from plantains and leaves) provides saponification whereby cooking takes place over six hours followed by three weeks in the sun resulting in a gentle yet effective cleanser that Clarifies & softens skin while providing relief to even sensitive types. Wild Lavender delicately envelops you in this spa experience thanks to its soothing floral notes which create a relaxing atmosphere when showering making Alaffia’s formula your go-to cleansing remedy!

Alaffia's West African palm oil is sustainably sourced from small-scale farmers in Togo, who extract the oil using traditional methods. This approach does not contribute to environmental destruction and endangerment of animals like Orangutans - unlike industrial plantations which are grown on newly cleared rainforest or peat-swamp forests. For centuries, West African farmers have practiced sustainable small-scale farming with native oil palm trees. This is a stark contrast to the large plantations that supply most of the palm oil today and are detrimental to Orangutans in other regions, who do not inhabit Africa at all.
