Cruciferous vegetables‚ such as brussels sprouts‚ cabbage‚ and broccoli‚ provide a variety of nutrients. While whole foods are always the best source of these compounds‚ a supplement like Pure Encapsulations' Indole-3-Carbinol 200 mg is a convenient source of one essential phytochemical.
Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is a compound created in plants; like other phytochemicals‚ the ingredients that give vegetables their bright color may also promote human health. I3C may also support detoxfication‚ due to its antoxidant properties that may fight off potentially harmful free radicals and protect cells throughout the body. It can increase your liver's ability to eliminate these toxins by supporting both stages of its detoxification process (phase I and phase II).
When consumed‚ stomach acids convert Indole-3-Carbinol into active metabolites like DIM‚ allowing them to be absorbed into the blood stream. From there‚ it can support healthy breast cells‚ which exist in both women and men (they are just less visible in the latter). One capsule provides a mild 200 milligram dose of I3C.
Furthermore‚ Indole-3-Carbinol promotes cervical health by supporting the functioning of its cells. The cervix is a female reproductive organ located at the lower end of the womb‚ and it allows menstrual blood to pass through.
Indole-3-Carbinol 200 mg also provides additional benefits to the male body. It may support the healthy metabolism of prostate cells‚ possibly decreasing the discomfort from symptoms like a benign enlarged prostate that can make it difficult to urinate.
Take one to four capsules daily‚ in divided doses between meals. At the recommended dosage‚ each 60-capsule bottle of Indole-3-Carbinol 200 mg by Pure Encapsulations should last from 15 days to about two months.
Pure Encapsulations seeks to formulate and manufacture high-quality‚ hypoallergenic dietary supplements. Quality control during the formulation and manufacturing process is paramount. All Pure Encapsulations products are made with the most bioavailable ingredients possible.

Are There Any Potential Side Effects Or Precautions?
Not to be taken by pregnant or lactating women. I3C should also be avoided by those sensitive to cruciferous vegetables.
Are There Any Potential Drug Interactions?

Ann Newman on 9/01/2014
The dosage on the bottle says "1–4 capsules per day‚ in divided doses‚ with meals." but the online description says "Take one to four capsules daily‚ in divided doses between meals". Do I take this with meals or between meals? Also, should it be refrigerated?A

Hello Ann, thank you for contacting PureFormulas. Since the bottle says to take with meals, we suggest this as well. Also, if products require refrigeration it will be specified in the label of the bottle. Indole-3-Carbinol does not have this recommendation on their bottle.
