Women’s Health Pack, provided by Douglas Laboratories, has been specially designed to help meet the daily nutritional needs of women. This pack includes a wide variety of vitamins and minerals, as well as important antioxidants such as lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10.

Ultra Preventive® III: Ultra Preventive® III now contains Metafolin®, a patented, natural form of (6S) 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) as well as 500 IU of vitamin D3 per serving. 5-MTHF is the naturally occurring, predominant form of folate commonly found in cells and is essential for overall health, as it participates as a cofactor
in a reaction that involves the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Unlike synthetic folic acid, 5-MTHF can be used directly by the body, without the need for an additional conversion via the enzyme (5,10-
methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR)). In certain populations, the body’s ability to convert folic acid to 5-MTHF by use of this enzyme may be compromised due to genetic differences. Metafolin® contains only the S isomer of 5-MTHF and has been shown to be the only form of folate to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier. Additional vitamin D3 (also known as cholecalciferol) has been added to this formula as numerous scientists now feel that supplementation with vitamin D at levels greater than previously thought necessary is critical to helping maintain overall health.

Cal-6 + Mg.™: Cal-6 + Mg.™ contains a special chelate complex of 6 sources of calcium with magnesium and other ingredients to assist the body in maintaining healthy bone structure. Among other factors, such as regular exercise, gender and race, calcium supplementation
during childhood and adolescence appears to be a rerequisite for maintaining adequate bone density later in life. Calcium is particularly important for women of child bearing age and especially needed to support bone structure in postmenopausal women when the loss of estrogen production at menopause leaves bones much less protected.

Coenzyme Q-10 with Lipoic Acid: Coenzyme Q10 is an important rate-limiting nutrient that is a cofactor in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, the biochemical
pathway in cellular respiration from which adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and metabolic energy is derived. Since nearly all cellular activities are dependent upon energy, coenzyme Q10 is essential for the health of all human tissues and organs. Alpha-lipoic acid is a unique biological antioxidant, because it is soluble in both water
and lipids. This allows it to neutralize free radicals just about everywhere in the body, inside and outside the cells. Due to its unique sulfur-containing structure, alpha-lipoic acid can scavenge several types of free radicals, such as the highly reactive hydroxyl, and singlet oxygen
free radicals. It is also capable of suppressing the generation of free radicals in the first place, since alpha-lipoic acid chelates transition metals, such as iron and copper. Because alpha lipoic acid is involved in so many different antioxidant functions in virtually all body tissues, it has been called the universal antioxidant. Vitamin D: Vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin” is an essential vitamin that plays many important roles in the proper functioning of the body. Though classified as a
vitamin, Vitamin D is actually a key regulatory hormone for calcium and bone metabolism. Adequate vitamin D status is essential for ensuring normal calcium absorption and
maintenance of healthy plasma calcium levels.
