Vessel Care by Metagenics offers a comprehensive formula to help the body
maintain healthy homocysteine levels and promote overall cardiovascular health.
Vessel Care provides the body with key nutrients that are involved in
homocysteine metabolism. It also provides beneficial levels of vitamins B12 and
B6, folate, choline and trimethylglycine for enhanced methylation.
What is Homocysteine?
Homocysteine is an amino acid (most amino acids work together to make up
proteins) found in the blood. It is mostly obtained from meat consumption. If
you’re homocysteine levels are too high, you may be at risk for heart or blood
vessel disease. Actually, homocysteine levels on their own are often evaluated
as an independent risk factor of heart disease. Your homocysteine levels may
become too elevated if you have proportionately low levels of vitamins B6, B12
and folate. Renal disease can also cause elevated homocysteine levels.
The medical community isn’t entirely sure how homocysteine increases the risk
of heart and blood vessel disease, but they have found a strong link between
elevated homocysteine and arterial damage that causes the arteries to harden
(atherosclerosis) and blood clots to form.
Unfortunately, testing of homocysteine levels is not currently available to
the general public. The test is extremely expensive; it isn’t widely available;
and it usually isn’t covered by insurance companies. That’s why, of you consume
a lot of animal products in your diet or if you have renal disease, it is
recommended that you increase your intake of B vitamins. To accomplish this, you
may supplement with Vessel Care by Metagenics and/or add more fruits, green
vegetables and grains to your diet.
Vitamin B12 Deficiency
Not only can a deficiency of B vitamins (specifically B12 and folate) cause
your homocysteine levels to become elevated, but it can also lead to a
conditions called vitamin B12 deficiency anemia and folate deficiency anemia.
Such conditions occur when a deficiency of folate or vitamin B12 causes the
body to create abnormally large red blood cells, which are not capable of
functioning properly.
If you have anemia due to a B12 or folate deficiency, you may become
extremely tired or lethargic. These are often the first symptoms people notice,
and it is usually what sends them to their doctor looking for answers. Vitamin
B12 and folate work in concert to help the body produce blood cells, but they
have various other functions that are crucial to your bodily functions. For
example, vitamin B12 helps to keep the nervous system healthy (this includes the
health of the brain, spinal cord and nerves), and folate is crucial for pregnant
women because it can drastically reduce the risk of neural tube defects in
unborn babies.
Vitamins B6, choline and trimethylglycine are also included in Vessel Care by
Metagenics for their enhanced methylation capabilities. For optimal vessel
support, take one tablet daily or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
