I've tried quite a few Buffered C powders and Potent C Guard Powder by Perque is the only one that doesn't make me gag. That being said, It makes me wonder how alkaline it really is, having a pleasant, slightly acidic flavor. Not sure if that matters, but It would be worth finding out.
It's certainly not as acidic as pure ascorbic acid, which is just too acidic for most people. I induced a calcium deficiency by taking only 3-5 grams (powder) a day for about 2-3 weeks. Had incessant left sided muscle spasms (below the armpit) for 2 weeks! (left sided spasms indicate a calcium deficiency; right sided-magnesium). Stopped the C, ate a lot of yogurt, and took a cal/mag supp. and the spasms stopped within a few days.
I've been taking this brand for about 3 weeks now and haven't had any muscle spasms, so I assume it's alkaline enough. One thing to be aware of with vitamin C is that there is a possibility that it can exacerbate/induce neurological problems in people with Lyme disease. I came down with hand tremors 2 yrs. ago, starting immediately after I began taking a moderately high dose of ascorbic acid powder per day (but no where near what many people take). This was the only new thing I was taking, but thought for sure that that it couldn't have caused it. I got lyme 5 yrs. ago, bulls eye rash, flu symptoms and all. Was treated for only 2-3 weeks tops with anti-biotics. (Lyme has a 4 wk. breeding cycle and MUST be treated for at least 6 wks.). Not sure if the C plus chronic lyme disease caused my tremors, but looking back it seems that my tremors have been when worse when taking C. They ARE slightly worse than normal taking this brand, but no where near when I was taking regular C ( possibly an acid/alkaline issue). I just discovered this possible connection while following a hunch doing some research this morning, so needless to say, it kind of threw a wrench in this review. If you have or suspect chronic lyme disease or neurological problems it would be worth doing a google search. I am only 24 by the way and was very healthy and energetic before coming down with Lyme disease.
Long review, but I hope it can help some one. So... anyways, Probably still the best C out there!

Potent C Guard Powder

Noticing "C" deficiencies, my holistic doctor recommended I take this product to supplement my diet. I know the diet is lacking some days, and needs some supplementation. It's easy to just shake into my tea After my doctor recommended this C, I researched it on-line and found it to be one of the best of quality products. Your site also offers it a few dollars less than my doctor charges.
Pros:
Convenience, ease of use.Cons:
Nothing.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Excellent Vitamin C
By Michele from Western MA on February 27, 2011

My 4yo and I have been taking this product for almost 2 years after it was recommended by his nutritionist, who is also a chiropractor. We both have very sensitive systems and it seems to be the only one I can tolerate, and I've tried lots. It's very "clean." We don't get tummy aches as we have from other Vit Cs. It is powdered so you have more flexibility with it. A small amount goes a long way. Tastes pretty good. Price here is best I've seen. I highly recommend.
Pros:
Well-tolerated
Easy to use with children
Cons:
Price
Harder to travel withI would recommend this item to a friend.
