Vibrant Color & Mild Flavor
April 30, 2013
I'll be honest, I do not think that Organic Spirulina Powder is a "miracle food" as many tout it to be. It is a nutritious product, no doubt, but I think that whole, clean, and fresh foods provide more nutritional benefit.
Having that said, I actually tried this because I am wooed by its vibrant aquamarine color. It imparts a natural color boost in my smoothies, chia puddings, and even baked/cooked foods (such as green muffins and pea burgers.) To my taste, iIt has a mild, slightly oceanic flavor. I add it to pretty much anything and it does not impart a strong sea taste (such as dulse or kelp) at all.
I'd like to note that if you'd like to have spirulina daily, this would be your best deal. The price per ounce is significantly less than similar products sold in bottles/jars. Also, I think there is a strong, negative stigma attached to products grown in China. Although this is sourced from China, Starwest Botanicals is a reputable company that performs quality testing of their products.
