STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
Sulfur plays an important role in nutrition. It is the eighth most abundant element, and is an integral component of more than 150 compounds in the body. Sulfur is fundamental to the structure and integrity of certain tissues, including hair, skin, nails, and joints. MSM is a dietary source of sulfur that is found widely in nature; major sources include milk, eggs, seafood, meats and plants.


MSM clinical trials have focused on cartilage and joint support. Cartilage is a fibrous, elastic connective tissue that functions as a cushioning layer for joints and is comprised of an extracellular matrix made of complex proteins known as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and proteoglycans. Sulfur is used in the body as a constituent of certain amino acids, collagen and disulfide bonds, and provides a raw material for the production of GAGs and collagen.


CLINICAL EVIDENCE
118 subjects participated in a clinical trial in which they received 500 mg of MSM or placebo 3 times per day for 12 weeks. Those receiving MSM experienced a significant increase in joint comfort compared with the placebo group. Our product provides up to 3 grams of MSM per day. (Usha and Naidu, 2004)


40 subjects completed a clinical trial in which they received 3 g of MSM or placebo twice per day for 12 weeks. Those receiving MSM experienced significant improvements in joint comfort and function compared with placebo. Our product provides up to 3 grams of MSM. (Kim et al. 2006)
