The Role of Iodine

Defining the RDA

The RDA for vitamins, minerals and other elements was established just after World War II to give citizens nutritional guidelines for preventing serious disease of deficiency. For iodine, this means that if you follow the RDA, you are not likely to develop a goiter, experience iodine-related mental decline or hypothyroidism. However, if you do not exceed the RDA, you’re leaving yourself at an increased risk for breast cancer (based on related studies).
