Your dog is more than just a pet: he or she is part of your family. As dogs age‚ they’re like old friends. That’s why it’s only natural that you want to do everything possible to keep him or her healthy for as long as possible. A nutritional supplement like Thorne Research’s Canine Geriatric Basics can help you do that.
Unsurprisingly‚ dogs in their later years have greater requirements for certain nutrients‚ which are commonly missing‚ even from a balanced diet. As the aging process continues‚ the number of possible canine health problems grows. The duration and severity of these ailments can be alleviated with effectively targeted supplementation that features a combination of wellness-promoting vitamins‚ minerals‚ amino acids‚ and plant extracts. Canine Geriatric Basics has been specifically formulated to deliver those benefits.
Its exclusive‚ powerful formula includes the precise amino acids needed by aging dogs to enhance their production of neurotransmitters. L-tyrosine is an amino acid that generates valuable catecholamines such as dopamine‚ epinephrine‚ and norepinephrine. In extensive clinical studies‚ DL-Phenylalanine was shown to block enkephalinase‚ which increases the levels of enkephalins and endorphins in the central nervous system. Canine Geriatric Basics also supplies flavonoids and coenzyme Q10‚ as well as other potent antioxidants that slow the oxidative damage done to the aging canine body.
Similar to aging in humans‚ the aging process of dogs may also adversely affect the brain; this can result in decreased production of neurotransmitters‚ decreased synaptic density‚ and the degeneration of neuronal membrane integrity. Phosphatidylserine is included in this supplement due to its positive impact on neuronal membranes; it provides support of lipid membrane components while increasing the supplies and improving functioning of hormones such as acetylcholine‚ norepinephrine‚ serotonin‚ and dopamine. Meanwhile‚ acetyl-L-carnitine boosts your dog’s levels of acetylcholine‚ another neurotransmitter.
Bilberry is another natural ingredient contained in these vegetarian capsules because of its beneficial effects on vision‚ which often declines with age. Since—just like people—older dogs tend to be more vulnerable to the harmful effects of stress; this formula also includes two adrenal adaptogenic herbs: Eleutherococcus and ashwagandha. Both have been shown to promote stress reduction.

Canine Geriatric was recommended for my dogs Rosie (12) and Scout (3) by our holistic vet. She recommends it for young and old dogs alike. We have been using it for a couple of years now. Youd never know Rosie was 12!

My 13 year old dog was so sick--the vet bill was through the roof and I really thought we were losing her. We were preparing for the worst. After days of IVs she began a long slow recovery process. Thats when I found these Canine Geriatric vitamins. She had lost most of her coat and the vet said it might not grow back. Well--she now looks like a puppy--is absolutely thriving--and her coat is unlike anything she ever had before. Its luxuriously full and silken and doesnt mat like it did before. Apparently the coat is a reflection of the internal nutritional transformation. I cannot recommend these vitamins highly enough! Soon after our experience my mothers dog went through a similar health crisis--she too began the vitamins and is doing very well now.
