  • Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research was designed to be a complete vitamin and mineral supplement for pregnant and lactating women. In this multi vitamin and mineral supplement‚ you’ll find the purest and highest quality ingredients available on the market in their most well-absorbed and highly bioavailable forms (so as to reduce the risk of stomach upset).

One of the most crucial vitamins for a healthy pregnancy is folate. Insufficient intake of folic acid during pregnancy may negatively affect fetal development. Fortunately‚ each vegetarian capsule of Basic Prenatal provides the active forms of folic acid (L-5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate and folinic acid) in a balanced 1:1 ratio to help ensure that your body absorbs as much of this crucial vitamin as possible. Iron is also important for pregnant women‚ but it can sometimes cause constipation; therefore‚ this supplement contains iron in the form of picolinate‚ which is easier on the stomach.

    Pregnancy and Nutrition

During pregnancy‚ a woman needs more calories and nutrients to support both herself and a growing baby. Even after pregnancy‚ her nutritional and caloric needs remain elevated if she breastfeeds. However‚ some women have trouble getting the appropriate amount of calories and nutrition from food‚ especially during their first trimester of pregnancy when many suffer from morning sickness. The good news is that nutrients like vitamin B6‚ vitamin C‚ and vitamin K may help alleviate those uncomfortable symptoms.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommend that all women of childbearing age supplement with folic acid. This is because many pregnancies are not discovered until well into the first trimester‚ and this time is crucial for neural development of the fetus. Even though folate is essential‚ it is possible to have too much of a good thing. Experts recommend that your folate intake not exceed 250 percent of the government’s recommended daily value‚ which equates to about 1‚000 micrograms.

    The Thorne Research Difference

As you may expect from Thorne Research‚ you will not find any of the additives or coatings that you might find in mainstream prenatal vitamin and mineral supplements. Basic Prenatal is formulated with only the purest and most bioavailable nutrients.

Many women have trouble digesting the high-potency prenatal vitamin and mineral supplements that are often needed during pregnancy‚ especially during the nausea that often occurs in the first trimester. It is for this reason that Thorne Research does not include high volumes of the vitamins and minerals that are more likely to be harsh on the stomach. Basic Prenatal provides the most bioavailable forms of vitamins B6‚ B2‚ folinic acid‚ L-5MTHF‚ adenosylcobalamin and B12—this means that you’ll get more benefit out of a smaller dose than you would with many other multivitamin and mineral supplements.

Thorne Research strives to provide pure‚ high-quality supplements to people looking to enhance their health and well-being. Its products are commonly used in prestigious research studies‚ and are recommended by many doctors and health care practitioners. The company always goes the extra mile to ensure that Thorne Research dietary supplements are safe and effective for immune-compromised‚ allergic‚ and chemically sensitive patients.

    Good vitamins, but the nausea...

I am a big fan of Thorne Research, and love that Basic Prenatal capsules are free of allergens, high quality & have the right folate. However, they are not easy on the stomach. I don't have morning sickness at all, but these makes me nauseous even when taking with food. I would like to take them throughout the day, but its come to the point that I just take them all at night before bed to avoid the nausea.

    Pros

      Great quality, the right folate.

    Cons

      Makes me nauseous.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Not my favorite...

I can't seem to take Basic Prenatal by Thorne Research without a full meal already in my stomach. It's got all the stuff I need, but I've had to switch to a different brand (New Chapter) that gentler on my stomach.

    Brings Me Back to Life!

Literally this product brings me back to life. If I dont take it (1cap - 3xs a day) then my mood and energy are really horrible. Such an amazing product. I do wish there was Cobalt and Sulfur in it but what can you do....

    Pros

Has great ratio of minerals and vitamins.

    Cons

Does not contain Cobalt or Sulfur.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    High quality Dr. recommended

Product shipped fast! Ive taken Basic Prenatal for the past few days and have noticed more energy than my previous prenatal (promise prenatal). Im guessing it is the active forms of B vitamins in Basic Prenatal. I like that you take this product 3 times a day so your body is getting a continuous supply of important vitamins. Product doesnt have a sulfur smell to me but smells kinda like spaghetti-os. Im not pregnant yet so this may be offensive when morning sickness kicks in. If youre looking for a product that doesnt have a smell to it that is similar in nutrition try Emerald Labs prenatal. I just ordered Basic Prenatal as well and it smells like ginger and doesnt have a taste to it.

    Pros

3x daily instead of 1/day Active forms of folate and B vitamins

    Cons

      Smell and taste

I would recommend this item to a friend.

    Dont notice a difference

I was looking for a basic multi vitamin. I prefer taking one pill and being set for the day. Taking 3 is a bit much for me so Im not consistent with Basic Prenatal. I dont feel any different though.

I would recommend this item to a friend.
