Basic Nutrients V, by Thorne Research, is a comprehensive multivitamin and mineral supplement that does not contain iron. This supplement does contain the basic nutrients that the body uses to function at optimal performance. Researchers at Thorne Research believe that a basic, yet comprehensive, multivitamin, such as this one, should be the foundation for everyone’s nutritional intake. At Thorne Research, they do not believe in adding unnecessary elements to an otherwise beneficial supplement. Doing so would just dilute its efficacy. This is why Thorne only produces the purest possible multivitamin and mineral supplements.

The Thorne Research Difference

Basic Nutrients V contains the usable and active forms of vitamins B6 and B2, and it contains essential trace minerals, including Thorne Research’s patented chromium formulation: UltraChrome.

This multivitamin and mineral supplement contains active folic acid (in a balanced ratio of L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate and folinic acid) and is devoid of pre-diluted ingredients and hidden preservatives. It does not contain stearic acid or magnesium stearate, which can inhibit nutrient absorption.

In perfect alignment with Thorne Research’s quality guidelines, this product contains the most pure and bio-available ingredients – without any unnecessary additives and preservatives.

Why Is a Good Multi-Vitamin and Mineral Supplement Important?

One subject that many experts like to debate is proper nutrition, but there is one thing that almost everyone can agree with – most Americans aren’t getting the proper amount of nutrients from their diet. In order to meet nutritional guidelines every American would have to eat five servings of health-promoting fruits and vegetables every day. Even the Journal of the American Medical Association, who has been reluctant to recommend supplementation, recently advised that everyone should be taking a multivitamin supplement. It is especially crucial for those who aren’t getting enough nutrients from their diet, but even people who eat a healthy balanced diet can benefit from a daily multivitamin – just think of it as a dietary insurance policy.

About Basic Nutrients V

This particular multivitamin and mineral supplement is considered as Thorne Research’s most advanced Basic Nutrients formula. It is a comprehensive solution for those looking to ensure they get adequate nutrition every day, and it contains essential minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium bound to citrate-malate. Citrate-malate is the most soluble and absorbable form of these mineral chelates. Basic Nutrients V contains copper and vitamin K1, but no iron or iodine. After menopause women do not need additional iron, and men are not encouraged to take iron supplements without prior approval from their doctor. Actually, it is generally only considered safe for someone to take an iron supplement if they have been diagnosed with a condition that causes anemia. Some people are sensitive to iodine, so Thorne has excluded it from this formula.

The Basic Nutrients V multivitamin and mineral supplement also contains a complete assortment of trace minerals along with a full scope of highly absorbed vitamin co-factors.

Thorne's Basic Nutrients V is a multi that works!
By Lynne from Citrus Springs, Florida on February 24, 2011
I learned about Thorne's Basic Nutrients V multi when my husband and I went to care for our son, who had been in a head-on collision on the interstate. I noticed the bottle of vitamins (I had to get them for him as he couldn't walk), and that he was taking them a couple of times a day (There are 6 capsules per day). All his life (he was 30 at the time) he had not been able to keep multi vitamins down. They always made him nauseous. He told us that these vitamins worked well for him, and that he had no trouble keeping them down. He also said that when he ordered them, they were shipped immediately and he got them in two or three days. That was two and a half years ago, and my husband and I still take them every day as does our son. They have all the important nutrients in them at the recommended levels. By the way, he and his girlfriend (now his wife) have completely healed from their horrific accident. We thank God for that.
Pros:
Thorne is a trusted company that makes a pure vegetarian product. They help keep our family healthy.
We enjoy the quick service, the low price, and the free shipping as well.
Cons:
We dislike nothing about this product, except I wish they would put vitamin K-2 in it as well as vitamin K-1.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Thorne is one of the best in the business!
By Candy from Olympia, WA on December 7, 2010
If you visit the Thorne website you will be impressed by their commitment to purity and quality. I trust them. This product is marvelous. I can take it on an empty stomach and have no problems despite being sensitive. Other vitamins have caused me nausea and vomiting even when taken w food. Over time, I do seem to notice positive changes in energy and mood and I am a chronic pain/fatigue patient for whom few things work. Pure Formulas has such good prices too, I could not find it for less anywhere and of course I appreciate the free shipping. Basic Nutrients comes in several different formulas so you can get the exact one you need and they are vegetarian for those who need that.
Pros:
Do not feel sick when taking.
Thorne's commitment to solid research and best ingredients possible.
Cons:
None really. What is not to like?

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Another Great Product From Thorne
By Scott from San Diego, California on November 17, 2010
I was introduced to Thorne Research about two years ago and was immediately impressed. Even after doing my own due diligence, I found their product line to be very pure and free of "stuff" that you wouldn't want included in your supplement. So, when I was in need of a comprehensive multi-vitamin, I landed on the Basic Nutrients V. So far, so good! Thorne recommends taking 6 capsules per day in order to achieve the amounts listed on the label, so I simply take 2 with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I would whole-heartedly recommend this product and Thorne in general. Also, kudos to Pureformulas for making it so easy!
Pros:
Like I said, so far- so good. Keep in mind, this is a multi-vitamin, so it's not as if you're going to notice some dramatic change overnight. That's simply not what vitamins and minerals do. However, over time, there is a cumulative and protective factor as the supplement clears up any deficiencies that your diet may have. All in all- this is a great multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
Cons:
Nothing at all. I plan on re-ordering when I run low.....

I would recommend this item to a friend.
