In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, African Mango (Irvingia gabonensis) Seed Extract IGOB131 was found to significantly reduce body weight and improve metabolic parameters associated with insulin resistance in healthy, overweight volunteers. The group taking 150 mg of IGOB131 twice daily before meals for 10 weeks lost an average of 28 pounds, 6.7 inches from their waistlines, and 6.3% of their body fat. In addition, total cholesterol was reduced by 26%, LDL cholesterol by 27%, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels by 52%, and fasting blood sugar by 22.5%. Adiponectin levels increased while leptin decreased.

These impressive results point to multiple mechanisms of action which promote weight loss and contribute to healthy metabolic function.

1) Enhance leptin function by reducing CRP and leptin resistance. Leptin is a hormone that regulates body fat storage by managing satiety, metabolism, and blood sugar. Leptin resistance causes overweight individuals to have high leptin levels yet be resistant to its effects.
2) Increase adiponectin production. High levels of adiponectin are associated with cardiovascular health, increased insulin sensitivity, and lower body weight.
3) Inhibit the enzyme, glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase. This enzyme is produced by fat cells to convert blood sugar into fat.
